Casting Techniques

Die Casting

Metallic glasses can be processed directly from their molten state. In die casting, a molten charge is directly forced into a mold. This technique has been used commercially by Liquidmetal® Technologies to make devices such as golf clubs, cell phone cases, watch casings, and more. Features similar to those found in zinc die casting can be replicated, except the castings have considerably higher yield strength, the hardness of a tool steel, and greater elasticity. High quality surface finishes can also be achieved with proper process control.
